    Ad7ui checked in

I added notes to the very bottom. *** [NOTE]

I had to guess the mode used and finally got it. It was switched before i got my system up as there was a "get the kids in bed" delay.

gnIipersonally i liked how domino sounded over olivia. i have to hold the mic to my laptop speaker to transmit with higher power. i copy k7ojl but not n7tzk. unless that was him asking about the waterfall6? this mode is slowi copied tzk on other modes. ems best so far... though I like sound of domino best :)

copying rolland fine. i noticed the mt63-1k has about a 4 second buffer of noise before it starts transmitting. ke7rip. tHERE's dave.>
Sounds OK to me. I'll switch and then turn on transmit mode ID so folks can see it in the waterfall.

i just type up the stuff and this hit T/R and then watch the text turning Red. when its all red i unkey.>Yeah, that is what I understood... I'm just not seeing them...

not copying anything now. odd. Radio shows incoming. laptop is not getting it. i see what happened. i missed the switch over. >-ke7rip. works ok. copy tzkere's a way to have FLDIGI auto detect the incoming signal. I need to figure that one out.

reg, you're coming through pretty well. N7ZK, you're also a good read. I'm putting out a full 65 watts, though. It might be too hot.

son, can you read this? I upped the squelch open to 6 seconds to give your manual pickup time to settle in.

Since most of us involved with this test are new to digital communications on the ham bands, one of the things we'll need to work on is the "human" part of the protocol... aka "operator courtesies" etc. These keyboard exchanges amongst multiple parties get confusing because you don't know who you are talking to unless the person indicates in their transmission.

A couple things that seem to help: 1/ Configure your TX macro button to include your call sign (Roland and I are putting something like "de N7TZK k" in the macro). That way everytime you hit the transmit button, you are identified. 2/ Put in a blank line before and after your message so the text doesn't run together.

I haven't yet started hanging out on the HF bands, so I don't know the protocol very well. Those of you who HAVE been active on HF digital, please give us some tips on good operating practices.

Here's a link to a pretty good writeup on best practices on the net ... it's a PDF file:

    http://panbems.org/paNBEMS_NCS_Standards_vs1.pdf

I'd recommend looking at their home page ( http://panbems.org/ ) with excellent info and good links. I've participated once in their Sunday 75 meter net. I'm usually only available one Sunday morning a month at 8 a.m. and often am studying the back of my eyelids at that time...
