Through out the spring and summer of 2009, a small group of people started meeting and discussing the in's and out's of starting up an ARES group in the Portneuf Valley area. History had proven to us that getting an ARES group started in this area would itself be no easy task. Our group had several years of political fallout and bad feelings to overcome. We met with city, county and state officials as well as the officials of the ARRL. Along the way we learned a lot about our community, the ARRL, and ourselves. Then, despite a couple of setbacks, through hard work and diligence, our group finally made it to our first goal. On November 3^rd 2009, the first By-Laws of the newly formed Portneuf Valley Amateur Radio Emergency Services were officially adopted! This first goal alone could not have been accomplished without the help of everyone involved.

We are still a fairly small group at this point with only a handful of new members, but are looking forward to the day when our numbers amass. Our organization is structured on the principles of the Incident Command System (ICS) and is dedicated to “....providing a pool of volunteers to assist and support operations of served agencies during emergencies, disasters, and public service events...” through our resources as amateur radio operators. We know that with hard work, dedication, and good training we will be able to always meet the goal of our mission statement.
